On June 25, the 4th China-EU Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum convened in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The event brought together representatives from the European Union and 13 countries, including the UK, Iceland, and Finland, alongside delegates from China-EU energy enterprises, industry organizations, and research institutions. Notable attendees included Mr. HE Yang, Deputy Administrator of China's National Energy Administration; Mr. REN Jingdong, Vice Governor of. Sichuan Province; and Mr. NIU Shuanwen, Vice President of Sinopec Group. Also in attendance were Mr. FAN Chuanhong, Managing Director and President of Sinopec Star New Energy, and Mr. Han Zhiguo, Vice President of Sinopec Star New Energy.
During the “Icelandic Day Session”, Mr. FAN Chuanhong delivered an opening address, reflecting on the long-standing, robust partnership between China and Iceland in the geothermal industry. He reviewed the fruitful achievements made by both sides in technology sharing, joint project development, and talent exchange. Looking ahead, Mr. FAN outlined promising prospects for deeper cooperation in large-scale geothermal development, smart operations upgrades, and the co-construction of zero-carbon industries.
Mr. Haukur HARDARSON, Chairman of Arctic Green Energy and Vice Chairman of SGE, also delivered a keynote speech during the session. He shared deep insights into the synergistic development of China-Iceland geothermal cooperation, the localization of Arctic Green Energy's technologies, and innovative models for cross-border zero-carbon industrial cooperation, offering fresh perspectives and directions for collaborative innovation in the geothermal sector.
The forum unveiled the first batch of 19 China-EU energy cooperation showcase projects, including the China-Iceland Geothermal Joint Venture and Cooperation. The projects highlighted years of practical achievements from the China-EU Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Platform, offering replicable and scalable benchmarks for enterprises on both sides to deepen technical alignment and expand project collaboration.
During the forum, Mr. FAN Chuanhong witnessed the signing of a strategic cooperation framework agreement between Mr. GAO Xiaorong, Chairman of SGE, and Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory. The two parties will establish a long-term collaborative innovation mechanism focusing on core geothermal technology breakthroughs, the commercialization of research findings, and the large-scale development of geothermal resources in Southwest China. Together, they aim to drive technological upgrades in the geothermal industry and foster high-quality regional market expansion.
As a major highlight of the forum's exhibition, SGE showcased its core competitive advantages and successful practices in the geothermal sector, garnering widespread attention and recognition worldwide.
