Sinopec Green Energy Geothermal Development Co., Ltd. or SGE is a joint venture established by Sinopec Star and Arctic Green in Nov. 2006. It excels in geothermal development, energy-saving service and GHG emission reduction. Located at Xiong'an New Area, SGE is the largest mid-to-deep geothermal development and utilization in the world.
SGE adheres to the principle of "Overall Planning, Phased Implementation, Comprehensive Utilization and Sustainable Development" and exhibited a great development momentum. SGE's businesses cover Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Liaoning and other provinces with a heating capacity of 100 million sqm (4 GWth), which is able to replace 1.5 million tons of standard coal and reduce 4.9 million tons of CO2. SGE is currently expanding its footprints in cities alongside BRI, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regions and Xiong'an New Area, and has developed numerous zero emission cities.
SGE makes full use of Sinopec Group's advantages in resources exploration and evaluation and China-Iceland Geothermal Technology R&D Center, introduces advanced Icelandic expertise, strengthens self-reliance in R&D, and has formed a full set of technology with is owns characteristics. It has been honored as a Demonstration Unit of Geothermal Development and Utilization by Ministry of Natural Resources and a Geothermal R&D Experiment Demonstration Base by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. SGE has also registered the world's first geothermal heating CDM project in UNFCCC. "Xiongxian Model", featuring government-enterprise cooperation, market-based operation, unified development, technological advance, environment protection and people's benefits, has led the large-scale development of geothermal industry during the 13th Five-year Plan period. "Xiong'an Model", upgraded from Xiongxian model, will contribute to the high-quality development of geothermal businesses in Xiong'an New Area and lay a solid foundation for the 14th Fiver Year Plan Period.
Based on the National Geothermal Energy Center, the Geothermal Energy Standardization Technical Committee, the China-Icelandic Geothermal Technology R&D Center, and the Sinopec Key Laboratory for Geothermal Resource Development, through the Iceland's advanced concepts and technologies, SGE has formed the "6+N" core competitiveness through introducing Icelandic concepts and technologies and strengthening independent R&D, including Geothermal Exploration and Thermal Reservoir Evaluation, Geothermal Drilling, Cascaded Utilization, Geothermal Reinjection, Intelligent Monitoring and Geothermal + Multiple Energy Integration Technology, providing strong technical support for large-scale geothermal development.
