On October 13, Mr. Hou Qijun, Chairman of Sinopec Group, attended the opening ceremony of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women at the China National Convention Center in Beijing and met with H.E. Tómasdóttir, President of Iceland, who was visiting China to attend the event.

H.E. Tómasdóttir expressed Iceland’s high appreciation for China’s “Dual Carbon” goals and emphasized that the two countries are highly complementary in geothermal cooperation. She congratulated SGE, the JV between Sinopec Star and Arctic Green, on its remarkable achievements, and reaffirmed the Icelandic government’s continued support for the JV’s faster and stronger development, contributing to the shared vision of a more sustainable and beautiful planet.

Chairman Hou Qijun noted that, under the care and support of the leaders and governments of both countries, the JV has made significant progress over the past two decades and has become a landmark project symbolizing the friendship between China and Iceland. He emphasized that Sinopec will continue to support the JV in expanding its geothermal business, bringing the benefits of green and sustainable development to a broader region, and making active contributions to global efforts to combat climate change and protect the environment.
