On December 27, great progresses were made in the geothermal heating (cooling) project, managed and operated by SGE, in Xiong’an New District Rongdong Area where the satellite station No. 3-7 for geothermal purposes was successfully commissioned and put into operation. This marks the official application of geothermal energy in Xiong’an New District level of heating system.

As per work schedule, another 4 satellite stations will be in operation around the New Year, by which time the type of heat sources for heating (cooling) in Rongdong Area will be transformed from natural gas to “geothermal + natural gas”. This transformation will provide diversified methods for heat adjustment at the heat source end, ensure the stability of heat source and reduce natural gas consumption, thereby securing a safe, scientific and economical heating in this area.

In November this year, part of the resettlement apartments were delivered one after another in Rongdong Area, in concurrence with the official operation of heating (cooling) project. As of now, the total heating area has reached 4.8 million square meters, serving over 50,000 residents.

In July, 2020, the consortium, led by Sinopec Star, was awarded the project for construction, operation and management of heating (cooling) in Xiong’an New District Rongdong Area with a total area of 12 million square meters, followed by immediate designing and construction of heat centrals and pipeline networks. In this project, multiple energies covering middle-and-deep layer geothermal, shallow layer geothermal and natural gases are employed as heat sources. Being clean, efficient and sustainable, geothermal will play a critical role in developing the “Green City” of Xiong’an New District.

Since the end of 2020 when the first geothermal production well was officially drilled, there have been 2 operating wells as of now, and another 24 wells will be in operation subsequently. 

Rongdong Area is a pioneering area for the development and construction of Xiong’an New District, and is responsible for the accommodation of local population and resettled residents of the New District. Through the supply of clean and green energies, this heating (cooling) project will enable Xiong’an New District into a prosperous and rapid development period. The integration of “SGE Geothermal” brand, management and technology will make contribution to the green, low-carbon, modern and smart development of Xiong’an New District, to SGE’s business expansion, and to the promotion of “Xiong’an Model” in geothermal heating industry.
